Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and it is the month that people take a day (Feb.14) to purposefully share their love with the special people in their lives. When I used to teach school, I was always totally enthralled with the happiness and enthusiasm of the children when they got to pass out their special valentines to their classmates. It was the day that it was “acceptable” to show love.
As I reflect on that, I am somewhat bewildered that we get so guarded that we hesitate to show love. Yet, we all want love.
Euripides said, “Love is all we have, the only way that each can help the other.”1 Corinthians 13 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, , it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
My challenge to all of you, including myself, is to purposefully do an act of love/kindness this month every day. Sometimes, that translates to something as simple as smiling at everyone who comes into your path when you are out in public. Look for ways to show love.
The question of the month is : What have you done today to show love to yourself and another person? I can’t wait to hear about all of your acts of Love/Kindness.
Love,
Ginny

My teenage daughters still sit on my lap and we talk just like they did when they were babies. Even though it feels like they are crushing my knee caps it is a nice moment in the day. Candy

I worked out today which not only is loving myself but it also translates into loving my family because I’m a better mom and wife when I workout.

Yeah! Good for you! You are exactly right. Taking care of yourself is a gift to you and your family. It is also a great example to the girls.

Ginny,
There’s a woman that I have crossed paths with at Panera time and time again. She is lovely and has a great vibe. I finally introduced myself to her a few weeks ago. We continue to see one another when we are there and always acknowledge one another. Today, my husband Bob and I were in Panera and she was there again with her husband. I remembered her name and introduced her to my husband. We had a great exchange and she let us know that she and her husband are ready to celebrater 59 years of marriage. So I asked her what about those 59 years were great. What was the best? She said, “Oh, so much…so much…Jesus, I will say Jesus”. Bob and I just smiled at each other. She went on to share that she and her husband had lived all over – all over. Bob asked her what her favorite place was. She said a town near Huston. They just loved it there. Interestingly, Bob is interviewing at a city near Huston. I’ve been somewhat reluctant to let Texas in – yet recently I’ve been having more and more opportunity to do exactly that. So, in response to your question about love. There was a connection between this woman and me, unspoken, which is Love – and through my willingness to “introduce” myself that connection opened up an avenue for Jesus to come to and through us. Serendipitous. Bob and I were so very grateful – and she expressed her gratitude as well. Where ever two or three are gathered…
Peace-

“Where two or three are gathered…” Isn’t it magnificent how God connects people. Nice going on following your instinct and introducing yourself. You have such a loving spirit and you always put it into action.
Blessings,
Ginny

Hi Ginny, I don’t know if this qualifies however, I’m participating in a TORCH
prison ministry at the David L. Moss, city/county jail the last weekend in
February. This is for young offenders ages 13 to 19 who are awaiting trial
for some serious crimes. We go in and share with them the love of Christ,
and for some, it is the first time they have ever heard of this. I’ll be
asking people at church Sunday to pray for 1/2 hour each during specific
times for these young men. Blessings to you! Linda

Linda, giving your time and love to the prison ministry is all about love. Asking for everyone to pray for them is a total outpouring of love. Keep on with the selfless acts of love. Thanks for sharing. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Blessings,
Ginny
